The Beginning of a New Era

IMG_2076  Life has a funny way of bringing you down a path which you never thought you’d end up.  I was one of those nurses who believed maternity was the most disgusting thing I’d ever seen.  I had absolutely no intentions of going into this area of care.  I started my nursing career in Medical Intensive Care.  There were train wrecks and catastrophic life events happening to people.  Uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension due to not having medical insurance to cover medications.  Kidney failures, Asthma attacks, infected wounds, end-of-life care were everyday occurrences.  Suddenly, I didn’t want to pick up the pieces after the train wreck happened.  I wanted to be at the other end helping prevent the train wreck.  I decided it was time to help people help themselves.  I loved women’s health.  I figured the only way to truly be a well-rounded practitioner in women’s health is to get a little experience in labor and delivery.  Suddenly my eyes were opened.  I witnessed, pain, anxiety, fear, excitement, and overall joy in one shift.  It was so amazing that the woman’s body could birth another being.  I was hooked.

Now a Certified Nurse Midwife doing water births in the hospital setting for all insurances.  I have decided to branch out into home births.  Thus, Touch of Osun Midwifery Services is born.  I am grateful for where I have come to.  I can’t wait to see where this journey is still going.
